Emma Hughes - BACP Accredited Counsellor practising in Leeds City Centre.
Biography
Emma is a BACP-accredited therapeutic counsellor. She graduated from Leeds Beckett University with a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2016 and went on to further complete a Masters in Psychotherapy in 2017.
As well as working in private practice in Leeds Emma is also a voluntary counsellor with several Leeds-based charities including Cruse Bereavement Care. She has experience of working with students in Higher Education settings and counselling children within Primary Schools. She has 5 years experience as a listening volunteer with Samaritans offering emotional support to people who are having suicidal thoughts or experiencing emotional distress.
Before changing career paths to become a counsellor Emma trained as a Primary School teacher and worked with children with behavioural difficulties. Emma has personally experienced how the therapeutic relationship can be a vehicle for change, having sought counselling support herself in her twenties. This was a life-changing experience and the catalyst that led Emma to become a counsellor herself.
As an Integrative counsellor Emma believes there is no single therapeutic model that is effective for the range of complexity of experiences people bring to counselling. The way Emma works draws on her training in a range of therapeutic approaches, allowing her to work in a way that is most appropriate and beneficial to each individual client.
Emma regularly undertakes professional development training and has a particular interest in how trauma can be stored in the body and the negative effects and difficulties this can have on people’s everyday lives.
